Diving into a Unique Steam Demo: Playing as a Piece of Feces in a Mission to Find the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and players have discovered plenty of entertaining independent titles. However, one is particularly notable for its offbeat concept. Called Unko Technica, this classic-feel side-scrolling game lets you play a character that is literally a piece of poop attempting to make its way to a restroom. As a fun fact, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

How you interact is easy to grasp: press a single jump button. Across 150 challenges, encounter mini-bosses and unlock a shop to purchase outfits for your poop character.

Execute your jumps precisely, since one wrong move means beginning again. Bounce on bubbles to launch the poop to new heights, cross fragile ledges, and activate switches to reveal secret routes. Earn UN-KOINS and use them on more difficult stages where the action ramps up.

In terms of design, the game shows off eye-catching environments and a killer soundtrack. The simple graphics featuring shifting abstract forms may remind players of beloved games like Earthbound.

Even though hard to name previous releases where you play as a piece of feces, video games frequently featured scatological themes. For instance, in Death Stranding, you can make grenades from protagonist waste. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use manure as soil enrichment. Naturally, fecal references is present extensively in Obsidian's adventure The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its goofy idea, Unko Technica has already earned significant recognition, including taking top honors at a major publisher's game competition in 2023. A playable preview is available currently on Steam, with the complete version set to debut on Steam on November 19.
